คำอธิบาย

เซลล์เป็นหน่วยพื้นฐานของสิ่งมีชีวิต เซลล์แต่ละชนิดมีโครงสร้างและหน้าที่ที่แตกต่างกัน กระบวนการที่เซลล์เปลี่ยนแปลงจากเซลล์ต้นกำเนิดไปเป็นเซลล์ที่ทำหน้าที่เฉพาะเรียกว่า การจำแนกเซลล์ (cellular differentiation)

การจำแนกเซลล์เกิดขึ้นได้อย่างไร

การจำแนกเซลล์เกิดขึ้นผ่านกระบวนการทางชีวเคมีที่ซับซ้อนหลายขั้นตอน ขั้นตอนที่สำคัญ ได้แก่

• การจำลองโครโมโซม (DNA replication) เซลล์ต้นกำเนิดจะจำลองโครโมโซมของตนเพื่อสร้างเซลล์ลูก
• การแบ่งเซลล์ (cell division) เซลล์ลูกจะแบ่งตัวเพื่อสร้างเซลล์ลูกหลาน
• การถ่ายทอดยีน (gene expression) เซลล์ลูกหลานจะแสดงยีนเฉพาะที่กำหนดหน้าที่ของเซลล์
• การปรับเปลี่ยนโครงสร้างและหน้าที่ของเซลล์ (cellular modification) เซลล์ลูกหลานจะปรับเปลี่ยนโครงสร้างและหน้าที่ให้เหมาะสมกับหน้าที่เฉพาะ

ปัจจัยที่ส่งผลต่อการจำแนกเซลล์

การจำแนกเซลล์ได้รับอิทธิพลจากปัจจัยหลายประการ ปัจจัยที่สำคัญ ได้แก่

• ยีน ยีนเป็นหน่วยพันธุกรรมที่ควบคุมโครงสร้างและหน้าที่ของเซลล์
• สัญญาณจากสิ่งแวดล้อม เซลล์ได้รับสัญญาณจากสิ่งแวดล้อมรอบตัว ซึ่งสามารถกระตุ้นหรือยับยั้งการจำแนกเซลล์
• ปฏิสัมพันธ์ระหว่างเซลล์ เซลล์สามารถสื่อสารและสร้างปฏิสัมพันธ์กับเซลล์ข้างเคียง ซึ่งสามารถส่งผลต่อการจำแนกเซลล์

ประเภทของการจำแนกเซลล์

การจำแนกเซลล์สามารถแบ่งออกเป็นประเภทต่างๆ ตามปัจจัยที่ส่งผลต่อการจำแนกเซลล์ ดังนี้

• การจำแนกเซลล์ตามยีน (genetic differentiation) การจำแนกเซลล์ประเภทนี้เกิดจากความแตกต่างของยีนระหว่างเซลล์
• การจำแนกเซลล์ตามสิ่งแวดล้อม (environmental differentiation) การจำแนกเซลล์ประเภทนี้เกิดจากสัญญาณจากสิ่งแวดล้อม
• การจำแนกเซลล์ตามปฏิสัมพันธ์ระหว่างเซลล์ (intercellular differentiation) การจำแนกเซลล์ประเภทนี้เกิดจากปฏิสัมพันธ์ระหว่างเซลล์

ตัวอย่างของการจำแนกเซลล์

การจำแนกเซลล์เกิดขึ้นในสิ่งมีชีวิตทุกชนิด ตัวอย่างของการจำแนกเซลล์ ได้แก่

• การจำแนกเซลล์ในสัตว์ เซลล์ต้นกำเนิดในเอ็มบริโอสัตว์จะแบ่งตัวและจำแนกเซลล์ไปเป็นเซลล์ต่างๆ เพื่อสร้างอวัยวะต่างๆ ของร่างกาย
• การจำแนกเซลล์ในพืช เซลล์ต้นกำเนิดในพืชจะแบ่งตัวและจำแนกเซลล์ไปเป็นเซลล์ต่างๆ เพื่อสร้างเนื้อเยื่อต่างๆ ของพืช
• การจำแนกเซลล์ในแบคทีเรีย แบคทีเรียบางชนิดสามารถจำแนกเซลล์ไปเป็นเซลล์ที่ทำหน้าที่เฉพาะ เช่น เซลล์ที่ผลิตสารพิษหรือเซลล์ที่ทนต่อสารเคมี

ความสำคัญของการจำแนกเซลล์

การจำแนกเซลล์มีความสำคัญต่อสิ่งมีชีวิตหลายประการ ดังนี้

• ช่วยให้สิ่งมีชีวิตมีโครงสร้างและหน้าที่ที่แตกต่างกัน การจำแนกเซลล์ทำให้เซลล์ต่างๆ ของสิ่งมีชีวิตมีโครงสร้างและหน้าที่ที่แตกต่างกัน ซึ่งจำเป็นต่อการทำงานร่วมกันของเซลล์ต่างๆ เพื่อสร้างสิ่งมีชีวิต
• ช่วยให้สิ่งมีชีวิตปรับตัวเข้ากับสภาพแวดล้อม การจำแนกเซลล์ช่วยให้สิ่งมีชีวิตสามารถปรับตัวเข้ากับสภาพแวดล้อมได้ เช่น พืชบางชนิดสามารถจำแนกเซลล์ไปเป็นเซลล์ที่ทนต่อความแห้งแล้ง

Every single cell in your body contains the same DNA. However, not all of your cells are the same – you have nerve cells, blood cells, skin cells, bone cells and many more different types, that all have a slightly different structure so they can carry out their function.

So, how can the same DNA create a whole range of different cells? The answer lies with differentiation.

You were once a fertilized egg – a single cell called a zygote which became a ball of cells through cell division. These identical, unspecialised cells are known as embryonic stem cells.
